How To Get Traffic Using Twitter: 5 Tips That Work

Launched in 2006, twitter today has over 390 Million active users with over 100 million users logging in daily. This figure itself is enough for one to gauge its reach and power to influence the online world. Twitter therefore offers a very unique opportunity to drive traffic to the online marketer. Like always, there are ways to attract organic and unique customers to your offer. Read on to find out just how…..

Wondering How To Get Traffic Using Twitter?

Read on….

Every online business has only one dream – to generate incoming traffic. From the biggest players in the market or a newbie to the digital world (like you!), online traffic is one the means used to measure success in business.

When I say traffic, I am not just talking about people landing up at your website or Facebook page. It also includes

  • Engagement, conversation, recognition, and attention from your audience
  • Getting prospects and subscriber on to your platform/website
  • And, of course, increased sales and leads

When it comes to driving traffic to a website, Twitter proves to be a brilliant channel. It brings in quality audience, people who are actually looking forward to the solutions that you offer. But the big question here is how to get traffic through twitter?

Most people think that getting Twitter followers involves using expensive tools and complex strategies. But experience has taught me that it’s not all that difficult. And these 5 key points should teach you how to get targeted traffic through twitter.

  1. Study Your Audience

If you want to increase traffic to your site, start focusing on your audience. Trust me, you don’t want uninterested clicks or hits. They will only end up being a waste of your time and resources.

So, before you start trying to draw their attention, you have to know exactly who they are. Ask yourself these questions:

  • What does your audience need?
  • How do they want the service or solution delivered to them?
  • What trends have got them interested?
  • How do they communicate?
  • What tone, words, and phrases do they use?

Observe your audience and analyze their behavior. Remember, the better you know them, the more efficiently you will be able to engage with them.

You can use tools like search.twitter.com to find people in your niche. Once you’ve found the right audience, join in their conversations and interact with them.

  1. Get The Right Audience On-Board

You must’ve come across a lot of people talking about how to get traffic on Twitter. They also tell you that a large follower base is important if you want to come across as a serious business. From personal experience, I can tell you all that is rubbish!

You want real people to hear your message, but you could do without those who follow you on autopilot. Very likely, this could be spam, scrapers, or people trying to inflate your follower count. They DO NOT read your tweets. In fact, they probably followed you to sell you their own products and services. This has happened to me on multiple occasions.

The truth is even if you have only a few hundred followers, but they are dedicated to your niche and product, you are sorted. Here’s how you can find such loyalists:

  • People who are re-tweeting your tweets
  • Referrals from other Twitter users
  • Through your blog or website where you have a Twitter logo along with the message “Follow me on @handle and tell me what you think” or your ‘Follow Me’ button
  • From other people’s blogs where you’ve left a comment or posted as a guest contributor
  • By clicking on your forum signature when you participated in a discussion.

Basically, the idea is to put yourself out there where people can see you. Make yourself seen and encourage people to share your ideas. You might even want to consider Twitter ads to get qualified followers for your business.

III. Build Engagements

Like I told you, engagement is key to attracting the right kind of audience. Now let me tell you how you can do that in the most effective way possible.

Twitter is one of the easiest places to start a conversation. Unlike Facebook where leaving unsolicited comments on other people’s posts makes you a spammer (or a stalker), Twitter literally thrives on strangers coming together to start conversations.

The trick is to not see your audience as a passive set of eyeballs. Treat them like fellow human beings and engage with them on a personal basis. Ask questions, exchange opinions, share ideas, and encourage them to share feedback about your product or service. This way, they will start relating to you and look forward to your tweets.

  1. Get Clicked

Now that your followers are starting to see you as an interesting person (and brand), they will take notice of what you have to say and are more likely to click on the links that you share.

So, now that you have their attention, what do you post?

Don’t make the mistake of tweeting just your own stuff – about your product, company, offers, and sales announcements. Keep a healthy mix of everything. Re-tweet other people’s posts, any interesting reads that you found on the internet, trending news, or advancements in your industry. Whatever content you put out should add value to the life of your audience.

Timing is of essence on Twitter. Not everyone is online at the same time and your followers may miss what you posted because the Twitter stream gets updated so rapidly. Post your tweets a few times a day, a few hours apart, so that your message reaches your desired audience.  However, it’s preferable that you reserve this tactic only for the posts you consider most important, not all of them

To judge the perfect time for your audience, you should post your tweets at different hours of the day and watch for the peaks of activity in your stream.

Finally, indulging in a little bit of A/B Testing won’t be such a bad idea. Each time you post the same content, change something about it – the call to action, the copy, or the image associated with it. This will help you understand what kind of content works for your audience and what doesn’t.

  1. Measure Performance

While posting your links on Twitter, always make sure to use a link shortner with a built-in click-tracker such as bit.ly or goo.gl. This way you can measure the performance of your tweets, which in turn will help you improve and fine-tune your marketing strategy.

The bottom line is find the right audience, share cool stuff, and encourage your audience to do so too. Now that you know how to get traffic using Twitter, it’s time to put these tips to the test and see what works for your business. Once you stick to it, you can be sure that Twitter marketing is going to take off to new heights and do wonders for your online presence.
